Rank 0-2 NFL teams by playoff chances

Games with postseason stakes are the most entertaining aspect of sports. The beauty of the NFL is that these high stakes matchups work. very beginning of the season.

Since 1970, only 9.5% of NFL teams have made the playoffs after starting the season 0-2. For a team that lost both games in his first two weeks of the season, every game from here on out counts as far as playoff hopes go. Achieving 10 wins is the safest way to make the playoffs, but it becomes increasingly difficult after dropping a game to start the season.

Still, all is not lost. That her 9.5% is much higher than nothing. 5 teams started the season without a win. Here they are ranked by their likelihood of making the playoffs.

The Bengals were clear contenders for regression this season. They made their living on big plays last season, paving the way to the Super Bowl with their strong defensive play, and having their moments seized by offensive and special teams. It may have been unrealistic to expect them to replicate his final two months of the Super Bowl, but the Bengals played. many Worse than anyone could have predicted in the first two games of the season.

Cincinnati’s offensive line was a big problem, completely gutted by Micah Parsons and the Cowboys during their Week 2 loss. That’s not what the Bengals wanted with the investments they made upfront during the offseason. La’el Collins has had a rough start to the season, but to be fair, he has back-to-back matchups with Parsons and TJ Watt, arguably his two best edge rushers in the league.

Eye tests aren’t looking in favor of the Bengals, but statistically they’re off to a shockingly bad start offensively. The Bengals are 30th in yards per play (4.3), 31st in adjusted net yards per attempt (3.4), 30th in completion rate (38.6%) and expected points added per play (-0.097). in 23rd place. Also at dropback, he allowed 12.7 percent sacks and he recorded five turnovers during the season. They struggled to get their play on track during this early slump.

Luckily, the Bengals have enough talent to be one of the rare 0-2 teams fighting their way to the playoffs after a slow start. Higgins, Tyler Boyd can all shred defenses and score touchdowns collectively. It’s highly unlikely the Bengals offense will continue to play this bad, but the offensive his line is again a concern. Collins wasn’t in his prime with the Cowboys, and the rest of the team has struggled as well.

The Bengals’ skill prowess could put them back in the playoffs, and they have been given the blessing of being just one game behind the rest of the AFC North for the time being. If any of these teams have enough game-winning ability to light a fire and dig it out of this pit, it’s this team.

The Raiders started the season 0-2, but like the Bengals, they have top-end talent to get out of this initial rut. It feels a little irresponsible to write off an offense featuring Davante Adams, Darren Waller, and Hunter Renfro. , the Raiders would be sitting at 1-1 if they could make one tackle on Kyler Murray.

If anything, Las Vegas’ early-season story points to two things. First, the NFL is fickle. The Raiders now face an uphill battle to make the playoffs. Murray ran for 84.9 yards on a two-point conversionSecond, it shows how close the talented teams are to each other. The Raiders played tough against the Los Angeles Chargers in the first week of the season before losing to the Cardinals in overtime. If the bounce here and there goes otherwise, the Raiders will be in a strong position to make the playoffs.

Their biggest hurdle, of course, is the division they play in. He still has two games left against Patrick Mahomes and has yet to face Russell Wilson or the Broncos (which looks less difficult than it did a few months ago). These are the games the AFC West has to win now that the Raiders have dropped his first two games of the season. It’s possible, but starting the season catching up to Mahomes, Wilson and Justin Herbert isn’t an enviable position.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans look to navigate the offseason and start the season like a team that needs to rearrange their roster for long-term success. It hit the Bills hard on Monday night, with rookie Malik Willis replacing starter Ryan Tannehill in the fourth quarter.

Less than a year after becoming the top seed in the AFC, the Titans find themselves with many questions. Can Derrick Henry find success behind a battered offensive line? Can Tannehill regain the magic he had when he took over his first job?Burning in Buffalo Will Tennessee’s defense stick after that?

Mike Vrabel is an excellent head coach, and the Titans have a history of sustained success in recent years. Playoffs Returning to his race is not out of the question. Their biggest help is their split. The Indianapolis Colts look like he’s the worst team in the NFL, but the Houston Texans aren’t far behind. The Titans have shifted from short-term to long-term perspective in the offseason, but still have a good chance of making the playoffs.

carolina panthers

Baker Mayfield hasn’t been the answer so far for the Panthers. Mayfield ranks him 32nd in his QBR on ESPN with a score of 23.7 (out of 100). The Carolina offense had some productive moments in the second half of their Week 1 loss to the Browns, but this season has been mostly sputtered and struggling to stay on track.

The Panthers have the framework of a team capable of making the playoffs, but they just don’t have enough consistency in what seems a plausible possibility. They have playmakers on both sides of the ball, but the combination of what appears to be the Lame Duck head coaches of Mayfield and Matt Rule wasn’t enough for the Panthers to cross the finish line in the game.

With tough games against the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams, their season will be decided in the coming months. Good luck, Rule and Mayfield’s legacy has gone missing in a very short amount of time.

Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta has been more competitive than expected this season, but this is still a team that is far from competitive. Rookie wide receiver Drake London was excellent to start the season, but the Falcons couldn’t get enough out of Kyle Pitts.

The Falcons offense could heat up if they find a way to incorporate their incredibly talented tight end into their passing game, but for now they’re still a little confused. They have flashy talent, but depth issues keep this team from being truly competitive and racking up the wins they need to get back into the playoffs.

Atlanta may actually be doing well enough to upset a much better team in the future, but for now the playoffs are a stretch of what this team hopes to achieve.
