That’s fine on our part: The standard iPad has been the most-recommended tablet we’ve been recommending for years now, and that hasn’t changed with its latest update — even if most of the 8th-gen model’s improvements aren’t visible to the naked eye. For starters, the 2021 iPad 10.2 replaces the A12 Bionic chip with the A13 Bionic CPU, the same chip found in the iPhone 11 series. Base storage has also been doubled: you can now get a standard 64GB, instead of 32GB as you did with the iPad of the eighth generation.
Another worthy improvement is the front camera. While the 2020 iPad has a mid-size 1.2MP front camera, the new model features a much better 12MP front sensor. This is a welcome addition for active FaceTimers, selfie-takers, and others who frequently rely on a forward-facing webcam. It also features an ultra-wide-angle lens and improved face-tracking technology. These upgrades alone might not be enough to buy the new iPad if you already have a 2020 model, but if you’re buying your first iPad, the 9th generation model is the one to get.
iPadOS is also a dream to use, and it works beautifully. The 10.2-inch iPad might not rock Apple’s new M1 chipset, but its internal hardware is more than capable, and the software is as smooth and intuitive as you’d expect from Apple. Apple gave its iPad Air a facelift in 2020 with the release of the fourth generation, but since this model fell right on the cusp of introducing new M1 CPUs, it didn’t feature Apple’s powerful chips — the iPad Pro line would be the first to receive those who They have a 2021 update. This year, though, Apple brought the M1 chip to the iPad Air 5, which has resulted in a welcome performance boost that narrows the gap between the Air and Pro tablets. The M1 CPU and 8GB RAM are more than capable of running applications smoothly and allow you to multitask comfortably; The only real limitation of the iPad Air 5 is onboard storage. That’s not a huge drawback, but your only other option is 256GB, and storage upgrades on Apple products aren’t cheap.
If you can beat that, the iPad Air 5 is a great buy. If you’re quite familiar with Apple’s lineup of tablets, you already know that the iPad Pro models are the cream of the crop. This means, of course, that it’s also the most expensive, so deals are always welcome. This 11-inch iPad Pro is still solid value for money, especially if you’re looking for an Apple tablet powerful enough to use comfortably as a 2-in-1.
