But you can always be. more Happy, thank God any spending here is done; That’s right, none of the tricks on this list will cost you a penny.
Of course, we still hope to see AirPods Pro 2 sometime in 2022, but it makes no sense just to wait and hope for the big reveal. So let’s use this time to get your current (and very talented) Apple listening gear in tip-top ready for Memorial Weekend in the US, Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the UK, and festival season for all of us.
No one wants their very expensive and tiny new AirPods to get lost or stolen, except for maybe petty criminals…but don’t worry, Apple has you covered.
The latest AirPods (including AirPods 3, AirPods Max, and AirPods Pro) feature a particularly smart “Find My” app integration tool called “Notify when left,” so if you’re out and about and become disconnected from your AirPods (you left them at a coffee shop, for example) example) You will receive a prompt notification.
To make sure you take advantage of them, all you have to do is open the Find My app on your iOS device, tap AirPods in your Apple devices list, and then switch to “Notify when left.” Take that, pickpockets!
2. Switch between devices automatically – or don’t
AirPods have a neat feature that allows them to automatically connect to any device you’re actively using. For example, if you’re using your MacBook Pro and listening to a playlist on Tidal, but you need to switch to your iPhone to accept an old-fashioned phone call, your AirPods’ connection will go with you (see the little notice that says “Go to iPhone”). ”) easily, without being asked. Sounds useful, doesn’t it?
Well, sometimes…but maybe you just want that music connection to stay in place and you answer your phone the old-fashioned way. Beauty, you have the luxury of choice!
Whether you want auto-connecting on or off, just go to Settings, then Bluetooth, then that little “i” info icon next to the AirPods name. Now, tap on Connect to this iPhone and choose whether you want to “Automatic” for seamless device switches, or “When you last connected to this iPhone” if you prefer to stay on your current device until you tell these AirPods otherwise. there he is!
3. Get Siri to announce all (or some) of your notifications when you use AirPods
…and if you want completely uninterrupted music, you can make Siri stay silent too! For our money, using Siri and AirPods together creates a beautiful partnership — if, like us, you’re the kind to tell you’ve got a meeting coming up.
Thanks to iOS 15, Siri can already announce all notifications to you, through your AirPods (not just Messages). You can turn it on or off, or Customize which apps will be able to send notifications to Siri by heading to Settings > Announce Notifications (under the Siri tab) and toggle it on as per your preference; You can have it all, so it will apply to HomePod and/or Apple CarPlay as well, for example, or just for headphones.
4. Spatial audio propagation – with head tracking if supported by your source device
You should definitely take advantage of Apple’s proprietary, immersive 3D audio answer to Dolby Atmos headphones — and for that, you need to check that it actually works.
A quick way to do this is to go into the Control Center of your iPhone or iPad with AirPods connected, and long press on that volume slider widget. From here, Spatial Audio will appear in the lower right corner. You can toggle it off or on or (best bit) Apple’s higher-level spatial audio, if you’re using AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max And the You’re listening to supported music on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac with an Apple silicon or Apple TV 4K.
5. Make AirPods Pro call quality better while boosting conversation
This is a thing for AirPods Pro only (although if you don’t have a set of those, we’d definitively point you to Voice Isolation, the secret setting for iPhone, iPad, and Mac to dramatically boost call quality) but it can really increase and improve audio clarity when Handling calls.
As the name suggests, Conversation Boost is designed to help people hear conversations better, and it uses beam-forming microphones (also used for noise cancellation) on AirPods Pro to increase the volume of the person speaking to you.
To use this additional feature, make sure you update your AirPods Pro to the latest firmware, then go to Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap on Accessibility, then scroll down to Audio/Visual. Now, switch to the headphone fittings and scroll down a bit to the Transparency mode. Finally, toggle the switch next to Conversational Boost to green, and you’re all set!
